There are moments in life that leave a lasting impression. Sometimes they become memories that we can reflect upon with perspective. Sometimes they continue to carry an emotional weight long after the event has passed.
You may know that something happened years ago, yet still notice that it affects the way you feel, the choices you make or the confidence you have today.
If that sounds familiar, Integral Eye Movement Technique (IEMT) may be an approach worth exploring.

Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) is a gentle therapeutic approach that works with the emotional responses connected to memories and life experiences.
Rather than repeatedly talking through every detail of the past, IEMT focuses on helping the brain process emotional patterns in a different way.
Many people describe feeling as though the memory is still there, but the emotional intensity surrounding it has reduced.
The aim isn’t to erase memories. It’s to help you experience greater freedom from the emotional reactions that may have been holding you back.

Every person’s experiences are unique, but IEMT may support people experiencing:
If you’re unsure whether IEMT is appropriate for your circumstances, we can explore this together.

Many people assume they need to relive painful experiences in great detail before they can begin to feel differently.
That isn’t always the case.
Whilst understanding your story is important, our focus is not on repeatedly revisiting difficult experiences.
Instead, we work towards reducing the emotional impact those experiences continue to have on your life today.
This allows many people to move forward without feeling defined by what has happened in the past.

At Nurturing Change, IEMT is rarely viewed in isolation. Instead, it forms part of my wider Blend of Talk Therapies, allowing me to tailor support around your individual needs.
Depending on your goals, your sessions may also include Hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), coaching or other therapeutic approaches where appropriate.
Because no two journeys are ever the same.
What Makes My Approach Different? The techniques I use are important. However, I believe the relationship we build together is even more important.
Before deciding on any approach, I take time to understand your experiences, your hopes and what meaningful change would look like for you. Only then do we decide how best to move forward.
My role is not simply to provide therapy. It is to create a safe, supportive space where meaningful change can happen.

If you feel as though the past is still influencing your present, IEMT may be a valuable part of your journey. You don’t need to understand how it works before your first appointment.
You simply need to be open to exploring the possibility that life doesn’t always have to feel the way it does today.
Please reach us at estelle@estellebalfour.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Not necessarily.
Whilst it’s important that I understand enough about your experiences to support you safely and appropriately, the emphasis is not on repeatedly revisiting every detail. We work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Every person is different.
Some people notice meaningful changes within a relatively short period, whilst others benefit from a longer programme of support. Together, we’ll regularly review your progress and adapt our approach to meet your needs.
Yes.
As part of my Blend of Talk Therapies, IEMT is often integrated with other approaches, creating a personalised programme of support that reflects your individual circumstances and goals.
